Saranap is a lovely census designated place located to the west of downtown Walnut Creek and just east of Lafayette in Contra Costa County. It is characterized by older neighborhoods and rolling hills. Saranap residents are mostly under the jurisdiction of Contra Costa County.

Major roads in the Saranap area include Olympic Boulevard, Boulevard Way, Saranap Ave, Kinney Road, and Tice Valley Boulevard.
Saranap is located close to shopping, recreation, and major highways. The nearest BART station is in Lafayette, but is easily accessible via Highway 24.The senior retirement community of Rossmoor is located very near the Saranap area.
